I have got this Taco http://www.minispare...|Back to search

I have folllowed the instructions for the wiring and the position of the switches on the rear but its not working.

I have a metro 1275 with the standard electronic dizzy, now i have used the red/blue wire,as it says not to use the white/black on a car with a coil on the website - i rang the manufacture and they insist you can use the white/ black wire?

See here http://www.caigauge.com/page29.html

Can anyone help? How is yours wired?

Does your tach need the instructions you linked to? Those are listed as for the "older" style. Instructions for the newer gauge type are in the link below.
http://www.caigauge.com/page30.html

I suggest you call Caerbont back and explain that while your car has an electronic ignition, it does NOT have a dedicated tachometer output. You must connect a sense wire to coil (-). Both sets of instructions explain that the white/black is for electronic ignitions but the OLDER set of instructions specifically says NOT to connect white/black to the coil. If you really have the older tach type and the person at Caerbont insists you need to connect white/black to the coil... GET THEIR NAME. if you make this connection and the tach fails you will then have recourse for sending the tach back under warranty.

When you get them on the telephone, discuss with them all the details of your tach and make sure you have all the switches set correctly. The early type tach has switch settings that must be correct to identify the ignition type.

Thank you for the help dklawson :shades:

I have sorted this - me being me didnt read the instructions properly and just went on the website, the website is wrong for both older and newer clocks! This is the older clock for anyone that needs to know.

The correct switch positions for a Mini are:

Mini A series single spark engine Pluse Per Revolution (PPR) = 2

Switch setting:

sw1 sw2 sw3 sw4 sw5 sw6 sw7 sw8

ON ON OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON

I am glad you got this sorted and thank you for posting the additional information.

It sounds like your tach does not match the online instructions for either new or old types. You list 8 switch settings and the online instructions only mention 6 switches for the old type and 2 for the new type.

Is there any chance you could make a PDF of your instruction sheet and post it here? It could prove very helpful to others in the future. Yours is not the first time these new Caerbont gauges have been discussed on the board and there are always problems. Having the correct instruction sheet would be much better than me referring people to links to documents with errors.

Great! Thanks a lot!

One last question. Is there a model number on your tach? Was/is it RVC1006-02CB? Are there more numbers and/or a production date on the gauge? I would like to have as complete a part number as possible so I can record it with these instructions. Thanks!
