Hi guys, im having trouble getting my mini to turn over. Ive thought it could have been a lot of things. I recently put in a new starter motor, new fuses and new spark plugs. Ive charged my battery and things arent working.
The battery is in and all the electrics are working bar the head lights (when using the switch). the engine wont turn over, the battery relay clicks everytime i turn the key so is it that that has gone? Or could the battery just not have enough juice. It almost turned over once but then stopped straight away.
I just want to bring her back to life. cheers guys
Has My Battery Had It?

Have you got a multi-metre?
Make sure you have the leads on the correct firing order, 1-3-4-2; Make sure that the LT Circuit is hooked up to the coil and make sure the coil lead is on properly, while your looking at the coil, take it off and test the Resistance, set it ohms measure the primary and the secondary, if they are way out of tolerances (which should be in the haynes) if not google it, bin it and replace it, make sure that the points are clean and the spark plug gap is set correctly to 0.8mm.
If you have checked all of this and its still not working, I'd start looking at the starter motor.

What do you mean by battery relay? Battery's don't click. The clicking would be the starter motor if it's faulty. You say you replaced this yourself - have you done it properly and is it the right one? Is it new or second hand? Dicky starter motors can sometimes start working if you hit them with a metal implement (not too hard though) but if it's new then something strange is going on.
No noise, lights, electric at all, or very slow turning over would indicate a dead battery. Your problem however sounds more like a connection one or starter motor.
Why aren't the headlights working but everything else is? Are they dim, could it be the wrong fuse? Does full beam work with the ignition on?

If the starter solenoid is clicking then sounds like it is defective. If it is the type that is mounted to the inner wing then check it has a good clean earth contact.

Easy way to see if its the battery is....
Put on the headlights. They should be quite bright if the battery is healthy.
If they dim quite alot or completely go out then when you try and turn the car over, your battery is dead. Even though it may be charged and showing 12v, it could have a dead cell. This means its shot and wont turn the engine over.
If you hear a repetitive clicking when this happens this will probably be the solenoid if you have a pre engaged starter.

I had a recent thing like this, headlights wouldnt work and car wouldnt start. full beam flash would work but not sidelights or headlights.
Turned out the contacts had gone green and making poor contact on the relay which must be ignition power related somehow. Cleaned the contacts and its been fine since, both headlights and the starting.
On mine its a relay on the drivers side inner wing, dont know if this is standard or not as I dont remember seeing one on my other cars.
Check battery using multimeter to rule it out and check the voltage when engine running/battery charging from alternator.
