Should there be any play in the gear shift coupler? Mine allows for some rotational play and I'm wondering if I should adds some shims to tighten it up?

Gear shift coupler ? I think lost in translation some where...
Are we talking about the tube which has two roll pins through it connecting the long rod from the remote gearstick to the back of the gearbox ?
