I am a bit puzzled by the set up on a 1275 we have for our project at work. It had an inertia started fitted on an A+ so I thought the flywheel/clutch had been changed but it hasn't. It is Definitely a verto clutch but the flywheel has 107 teeth not 129 as I expected. I know that is the right number for the inertia starter but I didn't think you could have that number on a verto setup. Is it possible that someone has swapped the ring gear? Any ideas anyone?

yeah as i understood it you can fit either ring gears to a flywheel, the only difference being is the thickness of the flywheel.

thats a pretty vauge response i know but i'm sure someone with more knowledge will explain it in more detail.

Yup, you can swap the ring gear, I had a pre verto flywheel fitted with the later ring gear, I didn't know until I came to try and start it. I thought the damm thing was siezed!!

The ring gear is 8.5mm thick if that helps.

The verto was fitted from '82 the pre-engaged starter from '86. Therefore there is 4 years of production of flywheels both mini and metro that have the inertia type ring gear. As stated above it is possible to fit either type of ring gear to the flywheel.
