I'm looking into finally installing a mappable ECU for my 1995 SPi, preferably plug and play and it must be either OBD or mega-squirt compatible so that i can display engine data on an android tablet which i will be using as my dash (don't worry about that bit, i just need info on the ECU!).
I've looked into UMS (ultimate mini squirt) since i know it fills all the criteria here, but i cannot seem to get hold of their UK retailer, Calver ST.
Does anyone know anything about the UMS and wether or not calverst still sell them?
or
Does anyone know of another ECU which fits the bill? I know there's the typhoon by specialist components, but since that isn't megasquirt based or OBD compatible (as far as i know), i'm not willing to spend so much on an imperfect (for me) system!

Ums And Other Ecus

Just out of interest, how much are you looking at for your upgraded ECU? I'm near to rebuilding my engine and more power would definitely be nice but I also want to stick with injection, and don't want to pay the earth for an ECU.

Cheapest i could find for both fuel and spark for the stock spi setup was the ums which is about £500, or was when it first came out, but that's the only pricing information iv'e been able to find so...
The typhoon is about £700 i think...

So no one uses the aftermarket ECUs?
I have considered installing a megajolt system just so i have controll of the ignition, but i'm not sure how well it would work running both ECUs side-by-side? Taking another MAP take-off would not be difficult, not so sure about the rest though...

VEMS already has an Android app http://vems.hu/android/
If you are looking to spend the money, VEMS has lots of goodies all the others don't.

Hmm, not seen much that would suggest that vems is particularly easy to instal and set-up, especially on a siamese ported engine.
Canems looks a decent choice though, although the lack of information on the output protocol it uses (if any).
plus is was apparently designed for a siamese ported engine...

Why bother with the compexity of siamease ports? its a head ache that can be avoided. What is it exactly you want to achieve with the fuel injection? forgetting the android/ bluetooth dash display for now.
You are right, VEMS will not do siamease port injection if that is what you are really after, but neither will any of the other after market options except for Megasquirt and all of the complexities that come with it. Canems is another option for port injection but does not work in the same way as Megasquirt.
since you were talking about UMS which is NOT port injection, nor is a run of the mill Megasquirt, or the Specialist Components options for that matter, I automatically assumed you were just looking at wet manifold injection, yet you dismiss the VEMS which is equall to if not better than all others. I have successfully run VEMS on a factory SPI setup with minor mods to the stepper motor to get it all to function as the factory had intened.
If you explained a little more what you are trying to do, you might find help easier to get you to where you want to be.

If i'm going to spend the money on a an after market EFI system i either want it to be plug and play, or make the effort for port injection. I don't see the point of putting a load of work in to have a mappable ecu which uses the vastly inferior wet manifold system when i could put in the same amount of work and have port injection. You are of course entitled to your opinion, but i don't see the point.
I must admit i thought the VEMS was more work than you seem to be suggesting, due to drawing a blank when looking for information on running it on an a-series engine, do you have a build thread for that setup on any of the forums you use?

Just had an email exchange with Ralf from ums, the ums is in production and they are starting final testing on an MPi compatible system with port injection. If and when that comes out, simple swap for an MPi manifold and throttle body and bob's your uncle!
