Is This A Mk1 Engine And What Dizzy Do I Need?

Hey people first post just needing a little help with a few fings brought my first mini a couple months back and have choosen to get another engine for it so picked up from what ive been told is a mk1 engine from 1969.

The engine number that i can see is 12A947

Also what distributor would i need for this engine

12A is 89/90 onwards (i think?)

1969 is a mk2 mini anyway :proud:

Yh the guy said somthing about it having a later block cherz for the help anychance u no what diatributor i would need for this block thanks again marc

There are two basic patterns the A series one fits into a cast sleeve bolted to the block. The A+ fits directly in the block with a Y shaped steel clamp held on by one 3/8unf bolt.

If that is the real engine number, then I don't believe it's from a mini anyway...

12A2* engines were post 1990, the 12A prefix was never used in a mini up until that point, but quite possibly in other A series powered vehicles, such as ADO16 ( Austin 1300, MG 1300 etc), midgets, marinas, allegros etc etc

It follows the same theory as early 60's, where engines were 8A, 9A, 10A prefixed, before they went to the more familiar, 8H, 99H, 10H and 12H

But i see the mini it came out of it had external hinges on it didnt get a great look it was under cover, if i have the Y clamp what distributor do i need, and if i dont what one would i need then.

The numbers help but pictures are even better if you can post some. If the engine is not in the car, photograph the front and back of the engine.

The numbers came feom thw back of the engine block ill get some pics up later if i cam work out how to put them up on here
