So yesterday I was in the auto mini doing about 50mph
When I my I pod dropped out of the holder on the dash & dangled in the passenger footwell just next to the selector. I leant my arm down whilst looking at the road & stupidly knocked my mini from 4th to in between 2nd & 3 rd The engine revved up so loud it sounded like a motorbike instantly hitting full chat with valve bounce. I quickly Jammed it back in 4th & carried on my drive fine.
Later in the evening on the route home I noticed the speed from 40 ish to 60 were more restricted than before. My car had electric ignition & was rolling roaded by Pete Baldwin not so long ago so would that valve bounce have loosend up the tappets ? Effecting the clearances & timing ?
It still starts fine cruises fine goes slow fine. Goes flat out fine just from slow to fast speed feels more restricted than before .

Maybe just Mini related paranoia, we all get it! The most common cause of differences in performance is the wind 'n gradient :-|

Take the rocker cover off and check the clearences, it's unlikely that a few seconds of over rev would cause any real harm but you may as put some slight deflection in a rod. If anything more sinister has occured then the offending part was probably on it's way out regardless.

Easy enough to check the clearences, adjust them if necessary and see if the problem returns.
