what sort of dash?
the mdf ones from the internet need brackets... but if you buy a rover cooper one or a decent aftermarket one, they have plastic grips, these grip the upper dash rail and are secured by two screws or nuts and bolts with 2 brackets throuh the bootom (metal bit) of the dash. This is how I fitted my cooper dash, although I'm sure other dashes will be different.

Buy one from Dash Of Colour. They fit using the Rover system described by Beemerduck and go in really easy. The other makes are all fidly.

my one my from classic mini interiors was ded easy to fit - just 3 clamps that hold on to the top and bottom dash rails.
