Hello

I'm in a bit of a pickle at the moment, I'm doing a vtec build and need to replace the brake master cylinder for clearance reasons. However the M/C I intend on using is the one from 1985-1989 (GMC227) without the servo but my car is a 1995 SPI.

Obviously the older M/C wont fit on my pedal box designed for the servo so I thought of just changing the pedal box to one from a 1985-89 car (theres one on ebay) however i dont know the difference between the two apart from the main difference being the 1995 brake pedal has the clevis on it which goes up through the bulkhead and the older version doesn't have this because its on the M/C but i dont know about mounting points, clutch pedal etc.

Can anyone shed any light on how easy the swap is, or should i just cut and modify the 1995 brake pedal to connect the M/C clevis pin to it?

I havn't got any parts yet because i dont want to buy them and find out it aint gonna work, thus asking first

Hope this makes sense and any advice is much appreciated

Kieran

Has it got pedals? The other change was in '76, from little square pedals (also 2 studs to bolt to parcel shelf). Post '76 have the 6 sided pedals like yours (and U shaped cut out that's clamped by the steering column bracket). The later pedals give a bit more leverage & are cranked further off the floor.

The one i'm looking at on ebay...http://www.ebay.co.u...9#ht_263wt_1255 has the pedals yes. What my question essentially asks is will that fit on my 1995 mini? and will it take the GMC227 M/C?

The main difference is the pedal return spring, on the early models there is a spring on both clutch and brake pedal inside the box. On the later servo model this return spring is on the upper section that the servo bolts to.
You should be fine with the one you listed with that type of master cylinder.

Ask around in your local club, I just paid £30 for a later type pedal box, complete with upper bracket, servo and master cylinder from a club member.

That's the right one, but >_< @ the price.

Every dead Mini is likely to have one, try the specialist Mini breakers.
