Hello theminiforum,

Here's whats up, my mini cooper's (2003 reg) wing mirror got stolen the other week so I went ahead and bought a replacement mirror off a website:

http://www.cardoormirrors.com

The problem is I have no idea how to fit it into my existing side mirror unit, all the mirror came with was an adhesive sticky back thing (and I fear if i just simply do that i will lose the electric controls)

I will post some pictures of the affected side mirror, the unaffected for comparison, and the replacement mirror itself.

Any advice is more than welcomed.

Many Thanks

Same thing happened with our new Transit van (not exactly the same i know but still) we purchased replacement glass from Unipart and it came with just a sticky pad, i looked and you can also buy glass that comes in a 'Cradle', this is the one we went for. The replacement glass i think is really just for if you have cracked glass and stick the new over the old.

I might be wrong though :)

Are these the same as the Z3 mirrors? They look identical. Looks like you will need some sort of platform to stick the mirror to even just to make it bond as best as possible.

Adhesive mirrors are designed to be stuck to broken mirror glass, rather than missing mirror glass i.e. air.

This is what I believe anyway :proud:

As above, the adhesive mirrors like that are designed to be stuck over a cracked mirror glass that is still in place. The one you need is like ethel linked to with the proper clips attached.

If the mirror mount in your second photo is flat, the mirror can be stuck to that and will hold there no problem but you need to ensure the mirror is sat central in the housing otherwise it can catch the housing when trying to adjust it to the right angle.

Best option would be to get the proper part though and clip it into the housing.
