Hi all. I was wondering if any one could help me, ive had provlems selecting first and second gear, but ive resolved that by installing a new gear selector, but after fixing the problem I now can not select reverse. Does anyone know why that may be and how I could resolve the problem?

Put the old gear selector back on see if it improves things.

I would do but then I lose 1st and 2nd as the hole where the roll pin sits is too big/ wide and the selector pushes away from the diff

If the hole is too big, you need a new coupling 42H 1116 and two new roll pins RPS 1416. Check the mechanism for other bits that are worn or sloppy too, and that the steady rod is ok and its rubber bush 13H 7288 not worn. Diagram here:

Well the hole isn'to too big now, as I have the new gear selector on and the roll pins sit fine and there isnt any unusual movement in it towhat there was, I just dont understand why it wont select reverse now, as it was fine before

It is possible that the bottom cover of the selector, which incorporates the reverse detent, is fitted backwards. Failing that, is there any sign that the operating rod or the steady rod are twisted?

No sign of rod being twisted.
Is there an adjustment on the gear linkage, as a friend has suggested to drop it in 3rd and try adjusting it? :S

There is no adjustment. If it is wrong, it is twisted or worn somewhere, but have you actually checked that the bottom cover, which forms the reverse detent, is the correct way round? Try selecting the gears with it removed.

try lifting the gearstick and see if 1st and 2nd return
