Had my mini on the R@R a few months back which I found rather disappointing, but more importantly it's showing a loss of 25bhp from the flywheel to the wheels, am I right in thinking this is a bit excessive also considering I'm running a SC box and drops, the engine had just had a complete rebuild @ Paul inch.
The actual R&R figures were 93.2bhp @ flywheel & 67.4bhp @ wheels considering this is a very high spec 1430 engine I'm quite disappointed in both figures.
I am running a SW5 cam which I think may be to blame for the overall low bhp but the loss in power to the wheels is a bit confusing, any ideas!

Eh with 1.5 rollers you should move power range further up, but you'll gain 2/3 bhp only...

How much do you think I would gain by changing to a 286 cam?

That should poke out 115bhp with a 286 and 1.5 rockers, if in 1st class condition, the emissions will be much higher and the low end pull will be a lot less than what you have now.
Interesting comments on this forum about 1.5 rockers, on this engine the sw5 would loose around 10-12hp by going back to stock 1.22 rockers. Again the 286 would only push about 95 to 98hp with stock rockers and 110 to 115bhp with them fitted.

How do you set the geometry to achieve such a big difference?

The geometry is important if you want the most from these. However the geometry is only worth a couple of 3 horses. The difference most people quote is because they fail to baseline the engine an do a true measurement. It is true however the real benefits are mostly after 4.5krpm.

In my testing, 1.3 rockers will give the best average torque from 2 to 5krpm on a typical road cam.
