I have reached the point of joining the Engine and Gearbox of my rebuild.

I ordered the Engine to Gearbox Nut and Bolt Kit from Minispares
( http://www.minispare...|Back to search )

I am a little confused though. I don't have the same nuts and bolts that came of the motor originally.

I am just wondering if somebody could give me a rundown of the standard use of the nuts and bolts.

I know it's a bit of a vague question but I am really unsure right now. I have fastened down all of the bolts pinch tight on the front and rear. But have no bolts through the dowels at all and when comparing to the bolts that came off originally there is a single UNC bolt that I don't remember/know where to put.

This picture shows the original bolts. The UNC one is the one in the middle. What on earth is it for? I stored it in my bag with the engine to gearbox bolts.

I don't understand entirely how to bolt down the dowel holes. Also, my collar is cracked. Will it be ok to use it anyway considering it's NLA?

This is the front.

As you can see, I have used five of the long bolts and one of the short bolts.

On the rear I have used six short bolts (including two instead of studs) is this adequate/suitable?

Big question is what are my leftover extra long bolt (1.75") and additional long bolt (1.5") for and how to I bolt through the dowels?

Thanks

You should use

At the back...

4 x Short screws
2 x Studs ( because it's very difficult to get the correct length screws in over the diff )
1 x long screw and nut which goes through hollow dowel at the flywheel end.

At the front

5 x long screw
1 x short screw ( behind the timing plate )

The other short 1/4" UNC screw you have in your picture is to hold the speedo cable adapter into the casing with the forked bracket.
