Morning loves.
my mini is garaged at the moment pending better weather and sufficient free time to work on it. Could be months.
I want to keep the battery charged to stop it being ruined during the winter and so bought a 500mA trickle charger.
Do I leave this charging permanently or do I do a day on - a couple off. Repeat. ?
thanks all.

If it's float voltage is rated at 13.6 - 13.8 volts then it's fine to leave it hooked up for a good while. If your car isn't being used I'd disconnect the battery as well.
I know you've already bought it but if you want a more hook up and leave it solution then I'd get a smart charger such as the CTEK MXS5 which I've got and can highly recommend it.
For example computer uninterruptible power supplies constantly float charge their lead acid batteries so it's fine to leave your car on float charge for a good while.

I've got one of the CTEK ones, very good trickle charger. You can leave them on for as long as you like and they keep the battery healthy and fully charged ready for use.
Also very good for recharging batteries that have lost all their juice! I've got this one: http://www.ctek.com/...hargers/MXS 3.6

This is the one. Not expecting top notch stuff for a fiver but not sure the best approach to using it.

Just switch it on every few days, say twice a week, for a day or so. You don't need it on continuously.

Yep, I have mine hooked up to an Accumate in the garage. It slow charges then float charges once optimum charge is reached.
They come with various accessories for convenient connection and an inline fuse for safety. I've used them on each of my cars and highly rate them.
