Received a pair of adjustable camber brackets ( MS73 ) from Minispares today. So chomping at the bit i unpacked them and found that whoever had welded the various bits together had failed to remove the spatter from the serrated edges of both adjuster plates, or more to the point had failed to use anti-spatter spray before welding them, the overall quality is poor to say the least.
So i carefully filed the spatter off rather than send them back as leaving the spatter on would probably have altered the camber and toe in / out.
Frustrations aside i started to release the four bolts and one nut on the rear nearside bracket, everything went well until i tried to undo the bolt furthest away underneath, taking into account i had soaked all bolts with WD40 last night.
Yep, the head snapped off so i will cut the captive nut off and replace it with a new nut an bolt.
I am taking both brackets to work tomorrow to have them strengthened as i can see a couple of weak points.
The brackets cost ( including postage and vat ) £46.00, i am disappointed at the quality of this product but cannot be bothered with the hassle of returning them as i can imagine there is no better alternative.

If they are for hard use, as in rallying, you might need to re-consider fitting them. On rough roads they can fail. Even the standard ones can split down the edge bend from the top and it's usual to weld a triangular piece of 1.5 mm thick steel to prevent the split from starting in the first place.

They are great in terms of design, but if you want to use your classic Mini for any sort of Historic Motorsport, they are not classed as a 'period modification'.

kad stuff is good quailty, cant go wrong with them.

im dissapointed to hear of a poor minispares product, i have only had good words to say of them and their products over the last few years. (appart from some brake shoes i had of them a few weeks ago, but i wont go into that)

I've heard good things about the minisport ones and they're about half the price. I'm still undecided as to whether to take a gamble on the minisport ones or just fork out a lot of money for the KAD ones.

Personally I don't think they are worth the money. It's easy to set the rear camber and toe-in with a file, a large washer and a MIG welder.

just wait until you come to fit them and you find that the fixing holes don't line up and you have to file all 4 of them to fit.

Saying that though the minispares are much better than the minisport ones in my opinion, the KAD ones are definately the best but for the price i always use the minispares ones.

Here is a picture, taken by a member of the swedish mini forum, he is having all sorts of issues fitting these brackets! You gotta laugh at the orientation of the holes. The rusty one is an original bracket.

I'm using the KAD ones currently, have been receiving some serious abuse and so far they haven't let me down... Same can be said for all the KAD stuff I've used, sure there stuffs more expensive, but at the end of the day, you get what you pay for! :D
