Valve Stem Seals

What I was wondering is, should this head have them fitted at all it hasn't at the moment and there are no smoke issues, has somone neglected to fit these in the past?
I do have some with a spring collar and wondered if I should fit these as the valves go back in, they seem a bit of a stretch to fit over the guide
Sorry if its silly but it's my first engine
Thanks for reading

Use ljq101160 for a trouble free life and not the old "o" ring type. Rover minis had seals on all 8 stems but the inlets are the ones that matter.

The only groove I have is near the top for the collet to fit into, so can I still fit them?

And i have some of these already

So that means my head never had these then, and i guess i can't unless i get new guides
But if I'm not smoking I'm fine without you all think?

The OE guides are not centred when machined, consequently changeing them for a new item will mean the seat will not be concentric with the valve. Result no seal. If anybody contemplates changing the guides without seat cutting they MUST CHECK THE SEAL using parrafin or similar after the work is complete.

about 80% of the heads I work on need seats cutting after guide work.

To Answer the original question it is easy to retro fit the later cup type seal on the older guides. Simply cut off the lip at the bottom of the new seal and then superglue/loctite onto the guide.

Had a look today, when i said they look a bit stretched its those little lips on the bottom pushing them outwards because theres no groove for them to sit in, i might try this just to get it all back together, and have the head all done properly later
Thanks again guys
