Electronic?

The white wire from the module goes to the positive side and the black/white to the negative.

Hmm. There was never a red wire for the coil. This isn't an Innocenti is it? The Italians were a law unto themselves!

Non ballast systems had the white for +ve and black/white for -ve as Rich pointed out.
Ballast systems (approx. 1984 to 1992, except electronic) had a white/yellow and white/pink to go to the +ve side and the same black/white for the -ve side.

ado15 is correct, but there may be another white-black, same terminal, if you have a tacho.

Does the red wire look as if it does not belong, or been added as an unofficial modification? Red is only used for side and tail lights, and the wiring colours are consistent across all UK made Minis. (Don't know about Innocentis, as has been said.)
