Fuel Sender

hello ,

im changing my fuel sender unit , ive taken the old one out and on the wire arm which holds the float , it has a bend . And on the new one its straight . Will the new one still work ?

Its a 998cc 1988 :D

It will work, sort of, but may be very inaccurate, unless bengt to the correct shape. See the link below for details of the many variants of fuel tank and their fittings.

The spi / mpi fuel senders had bends in them, the earlier carb ones didn't. This was because the spi/mpi cars had a fuel pump in the tank, and the bends were needed to stop the sender getting caught on the pump.

Being a 1988 car, there are two scenarios with yours:

1 - Someone has fitted a new sender to the original tank, and used an injection type one. If this is the case, you can put a normal straight one back in and it will work fine.

2 - Someone has swapped your original fuel tank for an injection type one. If you fit a straight sender, it will foul on the fuel pump bracket and the gauge will never read more than half full. In this case the solution is to bend your new sender to match the one that came out.

ive had a look and on the somerfords website and its straight , so it looks like your right Matt someone has changed it for a injection type one , as there isn't a bracket in the tank .

While were on subject whats the " O ring " on the float for ???
