Hi Guys,

I have a Rover mini Italian Job, 1275cc all is fine except my heater isn't heating up, ive tried the tubes/hoses to make sure there was no blockages but all seems ok, top tubes/hoses are heating up nicely. Just can't seem to figure out why theres no heat blowing through the heater, only cold!

Wondered if anyone had any ideas as what may be the cause of this?

Regards

Martin

Is your coolant ,low?
Heater matrix like to sludge up. If you rule out leaks, faulty tap, water pump etc, then you might find a back flush sorts it out.

Sounds like an air lock in the heater circuit, it's happened to me a few times.

First try taking the rad cap off, start the engine and leaving to idle until the engine is up to temperature (i.e when the thermostat opens) and see if that resolves the problem. Failing that, disconnect the heater inlet/outlet hoses and connect a garden hose to one, and a spare length of hose leading to a bucket to the other. Then gently flush the hoses and matrix through with water from teh garden hose (don't turn your garden tap on full though, as mains water pressure will probably blow holes in your matrix) then connect the hoses back up again and start the engine. Hopefully the garden hose will have primed the heater circuit and removed any air, and also any sludge/debris that may have been causing a blockage will have been flushed out too.

If the hoses are heating up it could just be an air-flow problem...

Either the matrix is full of ******* or the seal around it is shot (I had both) so that cold ear can get past it rather than through it...

A back flush is where you flush out in the opposite direction to the normal flow of coolant to remove any debris. When flushing the heater circuit or main rad, it's a good idea to flush with a garden hose using the method I described above, then swap the hoses over and flush the system out in the other direction afterwards.
