Lulu has developed an intermittent lighting problem. Every so often the side lights (including rear lights) & instrument panel lights fail to light. The headlights & rear fog are fine. I think the obvious cause is a faulty earth but can anyone shed some light (excuse the awful pun) on where to look. I have fiddled with fuses & fuse holders. I have disconnected & reconnected wires at the slam panel all to no avail. I also thought that it may be the light switch. Any thoughts?

Daren't go out in the dark now.
Cheers

Lulu is 1994 Sprite 1275

No worries, I think I've tracked down the problem. It wasn't the switch (luckily I had a spare), wasn't the wires at the slam panel, it was the fuse box. Fuses were A Ok, it looks like a dodgy box. When I wiggled (dead technical) the connections the lights did their thing. I'm off to MiniSpares to replace the box.

Water can get behind them 'n cause shorts, it's as likely to be the wiring as the fuses. You could swap the lot with one of the other 3 - fuse & all its wires.

Ethel there is something peculiar with the fuse box though. I had the side lights on, removed the wire from the output side & hey presto they went out (as expected), replaced. I then took the feed wire off & again they went off (as expected). But........... when I removed the fuse, they stayed lit. Not sure what is going on there. I would have thought that the power would have been going through the fuse.
