dont know if im posting this in the correct section, as its jus a general wonderingmnet.....

you know the chrome filler strip in the front and rear windscreens, i would like to replace mine, can i do it with the seal still in place on the car or does it have to be done before the seal is put in place?

needs to be replace on the car as it locks the screen in the seal.
will need a special tool for the job.

so i could just take the old one out and replace it with a new one?

I’ve been wondering as it really lashed it down a ffew times over night (only seams to rain when I leave my mini out of the garage )
I have now found out the front windscreen rubber is leaking and running down both sides of the dash rails .

So I think it's about time I changed the rubbers front and rear( knowing my luck), just wondering are the latter wider windscreen rubbers any better than the older narrow one, fitted at present?

dont buy the mini spares tool, its C**p and will bend, trust me i know

I made my tool!


Works better than the bought ones too. Oh and you DONT need the one with the Roller on. its just somthing else to break.

its a VERY easy job. Simply pop out the finishing clip, Prise the filler strip out with a scredriver. Pull it out right round. It may brake into small pieces if its old and dried out / perrished.

fitting the new one is easy too. Bit of window cleaner in the gap where the filler strip goes.

Then place the fillet tool into the seal so it seperates the seal, Then slide the fillet strip in about an inch.

And simply run it round slowley, feeding the filler strip in as you go.

Corners can be a bugger tho!

I put my old rubbers in boiling water fot 10min to soften them up, you get less tears when you are puttting your screen in. I never used a tool, just a screw driver. simple
