Hi,

I am possibly going to get some spot lights for the front of my mini.

I was wondering what the best make was to get.

I was hoping for a kit that included all the wiring and lights etc.

What are everyones opinions on certian kits and where to get them from?

Thanks

Dan

If you can find a set the original Cibie Oscars are fantastic. You might find the super-Oscars a bit big.
Alternatively if you want a good smaller light look for the Hella range. Their driving lights are excellent.
One thing to note is the difference between spotlight & driving lighs. Spotlights give a very long range pencil beam whilst driving lights give a more spread beam but should still be longer range than ordinary headlights, even halogen ones.
The spot/fog lights supplied as standard on some later Minis are very poor and quite honestly one is as better off just up-grading the headlights to, say, Cibie heads.

Cheers. I guess there are plenty but these things change all the time. I just wanted peoples honest opinions.

They will be more for show and I will probably get two fog and two driving lights.

Thanks guys

What about Lucas SLR/SFT 700? How are they compared to Cibie Oscars?

The old SLR700 was just so very good and they were known as 'Lucas Flamethrowers'. You need an adaptor to fit a halogen bulb and I've always liked them. In fact, on my current rally 'S' I had a pair of PIAA 8" driving lights and a pair of SLR700's with halogen bulbs and I used that set-up on internationals where more than 2 extra lights were allowed.
The problem now is that one with an uncorroded lens is very expensive and I've seen really good ones at c.£90 each.
On a Mini they do look very 'period'.
Here are two rally 'S's, a 1275 and a 1071, which I owned in the 60's each with 4 off Lucas SLR700 spot-lights with halogen bulbs:

'Lucas Flamethrowers'

Thanks, that's good to know. I've been torn between Oscars and SLR700s.

Holden sells reproductions at £125.00 each
