Hello
I had a clutch problem on the first engine (998cc A+) I put in my mini so I had to change it, as a few forums had said this turned out to be a nightmare to get the clutch off. After fitting the new clutch the engine developed a nasty knocking noise from the clutch end, expecting the worst that we had bent the crank trying to get the old clutch off I brought another engine 988cc A.
This engine went under a full rebuild with as much as possible being replaced with new componants, the clutch was removed less heavy handed and a new one put on. The engine still makes the same noise!
I followed the book on building the new engine and am stumped as to what it now can be, please help!

First question you need to ask is, what have I not changed, if the knock is the same as before, then it's more likely to be what is original rather than what You've changed...
Can you describe the conditions under which the knock occurs, and more importantly when it does not.

The only thing that is the same is the clutch kit itself, the noise happens on tick over give it some revs and it goes.

Could it be the subframe mount making the noise I know they are not in great shape and do need replacing

did you move the 'bolts' holding the clutch slave cylinder across to the new engine, reason being if they are too long they can fowl the flywheel. Common mistake is to use the starter motor bolts when mounting the slave cylinder to the transfer case

Found the problem, the 'new' clucth from ebay is a load of crap all loose and machined down on the pressure place by 3mm badly, as in on the piss.
