Hi all,
I am trying to put new piston rings into my mini but the trouble i'm having is that once installed (1 piston only) the piston becomes stuck in the cyclinder and can only be moved by hitting it with a soft impliment. I'm pretty sure it's not the 2 compression rings so It must be the oil rings and specifically the oil ring spacer. The question is:
Is this possible?
AND do you need to file an end gap into the spacer.
At the moment when installed the 2 ends are touching and I'm minful that they are not to overlap (you can still see the red and black ends).

Any thoughts????
Thanks
Peter

Are you using a piston ring compressor? That's imperative!

Yes. The piston is inside the bore, It is really stiff.

I suggest that the ring is not sitting in the gap in the piston correctly, or you have the wrong size piston rings...

Remove the piston and all the rings, and then check the ring gap all the way down the bore by putting the ring in the bore and using the piston with no rings on it, square it up, then measure the gap between the ring ends....

I've done that. All seems fine except the spacer (which is a little difficult to know it's correct size). I am wondering whether I need to file a little of the end of the spacer to increase the gap?

Possibly or they might be too big. The ends only touch don't they - They are not supposed to cross are they? are'nt you supposed to see the black and red diots???? Can I file some of the end off?

O'h bit of a stupid question but does the oil outet hole on the pushrod have to face up to the camshaft. I might have mixed up the pistons when I marked them so want to make sure they are going back in correctly.
Thanks
Peter
