Reducing degrees with 9 degree key from 126 to 107 degrees, but which way do you put the key in? Say facing the cam end, top of woodruff shifting to the left or right. I've put it shifting to the right, but I think that is wrong!

126' to 107' = 19' and that is surely more than one tooth on the cam wheel. I haven't gone and counted the teeth, but there must be more than 20.

Typo I assumed. 119 deg.. So you have put the key in with the offset out to the right? I reckon that's correct

:shy: he he. Well we were out of options at that point !! In my mind our 1st thought is still right, but there, I wont be doing the lottery next time. Did you ever watch Bill Sollis building his 1380? he got in a similar muddle and ended up with trial and error. Let us know the result

Just ordered a couple more woodruffs 9 and 7 degrees, so we'll see what happens. Thinking more about it, think the top of the woodruff should go left, as that would close the gap (degrees) on my timing wheel protractor thing.

hang on a mo.....I'm confused. I thought that you already have a 9 deg key? and had tried it, fitted it the wrong way round thus simply needing to fit it the other way. My seemingly flippant comment was only saying hey ho,,sod's law theres 2 ways to try and you chose the wrong one!Now I thought about it longer,it's the crank that's advanced, not the cam so my initial comment was wrong,it would have retarded the cam,not the crank.
