I want to replace my parcel shelf speaker but it has a unusual connection. How to i wire up two new ones.
I in time would also like to have two 6x9 in under the rear seats with an amp powering them.
how have other people wired all these in and where do most people place the amp.
Last thing i am considering having a sub in the boot with a boot lining kit form optimise automotive that has a sub box and replacing the head unit for one with Bluetooth audio stream.
anyone know any good neat way of wiring them and is there any point having a sub in the boot.Posted Image

if you wanted to use the existing wiring, just cut of those connectors and crimp on some new ones.

I have my amps in the boot, you could place them under the seats tho.

As some advice tho, placing speakers under the rears seats wont get you the best sound from them. They would be much better suited up front. Optimise automotive do some good speaker pods that mount neatly under the front dashboard. This would provide a better sound with the speakers in front of you.

Putting a sub in does add a lot to the sound in a car. A half decent 8 " in the right sized enclosure should do the job well. The mini has loads of holes to pass wires through all over the place. You won't find it hard to do. Just get the earth right and the rest is straight forward.

if you put a sub in your boot don't put speakers in your parcel shelf, unless they are in enclosures or the sub will kill them.

the ammount of air the sub moves when it's working will break the shelf speakers. Just ask RUCKUS if you dare.

just make some fibreglass pods to cover them like this

the air pressure of the sub will over time damage the speakers on the shelf otherwise

Wow, those pods turned out great, I might have to add some of those to my list of stuff to make. Did you notice any sound quality differences when using the pods with or without the sub?

If the pod are small then the full range speakers will lose low end frequency extension (bass/mid bass).
So make then as big a possible, I've seen 5lt ice cream tubs used for this job. They were painted black and sealed to the underside on the rear shelf with sikaflex sealant. Simple... :)

Edit: also you should use a little deadening on the pod/tubs and and use acoustic wool filling like this stuff http://www.europe-au...Product_ID=1935

as above - the result was that the speakers loose the low end as the sealed enclosure doesn't allow much cone travel but this is a trade off if your putting a sub in as you wont really notice it with the sub on and the parcel shelf speakers will last a lot longer.

The other option is to not bother with the pods and put a few smaller subs under the rear seats instead of the boot.
