Hi, Brought a 1275 a couple of weeks ago and have only just got around to putting it in but I can't find an oil filter to fit. I've tried all of the mini filters available but none of them fit as the thread seems to be smaller. my oil filter is mounted on the block and is quite a long filter so I believe that it may be a south African block. (I also got told when I brought it that the bloke who rebuilt it was from Africa so he may have imported it). Please please please help as I need the filter before Christmas. Thanks Toby

Oil filters on 1275 Austin Maestros mount directly to the block so might be the same as what you need.

Sounds like a Maestro A-Series type to me as well.

yes that's what the size of the oil filter looked like. it's a carb model and I tried the MPI oil filter and it wasn't the correct one. The thread on the block is 15mm and the overall filter diameter is 75mm. How do you upload pictures and I will post some of what it all looks like.

I looked at a Maestro filter today and the thread size was too big. I found a filter in Halfords today with the correct diameter thread but it doesn't wind on fully as the thread isn't right.

This is not necessarily going to be a helpful suggestion unless you have access to a machine shop.

As a point of reference, the Triumph 1500cc engines have an oddball thread for their filters also. The standard "fix" for this is to fit an adapter nipple in the block. It adapts the smaller threads in the block (perhaps 5/8-UNC) to the much more common 3/4-UNC threads used on a lot of filters. If you can figure out what is in the block (using calipers and a thread gauge) you could make or buy an adapter (bushing or nipple) so in the future you could use more readily available filters.

To give you an idea of what I am talking about, the picture below is the filter adapter nipple.

i managed t ofind a filter to fit in the end and it was a champion filter for a ducatti motorbike. it's a lot shorter than the original filter but seems to do the job for now. I might look into getting an adapter so ican fit a standard filter on it, but the champion filter works well as i am able to put my coil on top of it which i think would be a struggle if the filter was any longer.

It might be an idea to find out the oil change interval and grade of oil for the bike to help estimate its service life on your car. Knowing the bike's operating oil pressure would also be useful, but most importantly do you need a bypass valve in the filter and does it have one.
