Hi all,

First time post.

I am importing a Mini One Seven into Australia and need to make it comply to the Australian Design Rules for safety.

One of the things I need to do is ensure that the mini has top tether rear child seat anchors.

First of all, does anyone know if the Mini does have these (it's currently in the UK, I am in Aus) and if not, if I can buy them in the UK and fit them to the vehicle?

Thanks in advance, M

Hello M.

This is a forum almost totally dedicated to teh Original 1959-2000 Mini.

You would probably be better off going to the MINI2 forum at

By tether do you mean 3 point seat belts in the back?

Hopefully someone on the other forum would be able to help you, but as a start, most european cars from that date would be fitted with the isofix system and so dont use the seatbelt for attachment.
That said, they might have both for those using old seats.

My mums BINI which is a 2011 to the newer one has Isofix child seat belt anchoring points and her older 2009 one had them too, I dont know about the earlier model but I would assume they were the same as it is euro standard for fitting child seats it seems,

are there no BINIs in oz which you can look at how they did it as I would assume BMW made them importable into any country?

Edit, just seen, the top mount seatbelts need a bar behind the rear seats? if so the second gen BINI does have this, I have done some digging and also know the clubmans have this but cant find any info on the first gen BINI

Thanks guys. I didn't realize this was just for the original (real) Mini. The 'BINI' is the Mrs' car, and we are importing it when we go back for Xmas (in 2 days).

I had a look in the Minis over here, and they do have them - but I'm unsure if they would be standard in the UK. As an aside, isofix won't be legal here until 2013 - we are a bit behind!...

Thanks for your help. I will try the other forum and report back.
