Hi all,

I have got a new clutch plate for the mini 180mm verto and need to make sure I am fitting it correctly as my Haynes manual doesn’t show a verto set up.

Old plate v new plate but not sure how worn the old one was??




Also am I putting the new plate in the right way round??





When rested all together there was a big gap between the pressure plate and the flywheel





This went when I tightened the bolts up but the springs on the pressure plate moved down towards the flywheel, from this

I am not sure how the clutch works but the new plate seems pretty tight in the ‘sandwich’ is this correct and as the plate wears do the springs on the pressure plate move back up to compensate for the wear.

I am trial fitting together before I put in on the engine, how is it looking plz ??

It really only goes in one way.
Of course it needs to be tight when bolted as that 'grip' is what carries all the drive from crankshaft to gearbox via the transfer gears.

Thanks Cooperman, always good info but ....

What is the movement of the fingers all about, is that an auto tensioning device during normal wear ???

Also when the clutch pedal is depressed does it reduce the 'grip' and therefore disengage the transfer gears ??

When you press the pedal down the arm pushes the release bearing onto the 'top-hat' bush. This, in turn pushes against the fingres of the clutch diaphragm spring which dis-engages the pressure plate from the clutch centre plate and thus allows the crankshaft to rotate without putting that drive into the primary gear and hence into the gearbox input shaft. As the clutch pedal is lifted from the floor, the diaphragm spring again clamps the clutch together and the drive is re-engaged.
If you can find a cross-sectional drawing of the clutch assembly it all becomes clear.
