I am building a 1380 i dont really wuna go for a single su carb i know its a good option bit i dont want 1 lol i was thinking of twin su carbs was in proceeds or buying a weber but the postal order got lost so getting my money back i would still go weber but i dont want to do bulk head mods now and dot want to run gauzer filter things with a swan neck
So
What twins are best for a 1380
Can i use air filters with out mods
I know twins come out of balance but thats life :) thanks

Doing the same at the moment.
I'm going for twin HS4's (1.5in) as i want to be able to use my car for historic rallying. I think HIF's are a better carb design though bu ti can't use them.
Some people may suggest twin 1.75" setup but i think this is too big and only for monster all out race setups.
And the whole out of balance thing is a myth....they only go out of balance if not set correctly or a screw/nut comes loose

If you dont want to mess with bulkhead mods, you'll find HS4s very good
Have them correctly tuned and you wont have problems with balancing and with the correct ignition timing you'll get a decent mpg aswell

Worn carbs give twin setups a bad name, and as long as the carbs are in good condition with no spindle wear which causes erratic idle of a difference every time you blip the throttle then twin 1.5s would be good for a road engine of 100+

I'm a fan of twin SU's and for your engine a pair of HS4's would be ideal. See if you can get a better manifold than the old BMC one.
The thing you then need for a 1380 is a head which is done well enough to allow the engine to really breathe.

These are twin H4's, not HS4's, on a Mk.1 1310 cc Cooper 'S', but the installation is the same as are the carb sizes.
