
Heel Board Woes :(

The last owner or more likely last few owners have been total bodge artists. Instead of removing the rear subby to repair the heel board, they have stuffed a plate up there and welded it in (as far as I can tell anyway). So I am going to have to open the can of worms and get them to take out the subby and do a proper repair. They will have to remove some oversills too to get access (and because they're oversills) It probably won't stop there either! There's bound to be more once they start poking around!
So I am just wondering how much this sort of job could cost. I know it's impossible to know until the subby is out and the full extent of bodgeness can be seen. I just wanted to have an idea of a worst case senario estimate. Or something of the like...

if it was my car and i was having it done for me , id be looking at setting aside 500 to be safe

If it only costs £500ish that's not going to be so bad either.

Then there's the ballache of the subframe stiffener bracket to inner sill including the slinging point. Also if you have to remove the inner sill then there's the access issue in the companion bin. Jacking point and obviously the heelboard ends. You may have to replace the whole thing so £500 may cover the panels if you lucky. This is worst case scenario though.
Oh and there's the arch repairs as well. Have a look at the Red one link to get an idea of the repairs you may have to do. its not a five minute job and would be expensive at a garage.

However, you won't know how bad it is until you get it stripped down. The good news is that Minis are not too difficult to repair body-wise as there are a lot of places with the experience to do it properly.

Where about are you located could give you a hand ??? And i was the same when i had my first mini didn't know where to cut, but when you've done the first cut you spring into action

The problem is until the oversills are off you really will not know the extent of the damage. You could be looking at complete inner sill sections both sides (not repair inner sill sections)

Looks like I'm gonna buy a welder and have a go my self...
If you need to pay a body-shop to do the job, then allow for inner & outer sills, new heelboard, rear quarter-panel repair sections, heel-board to fore & aft structure repair and possibly jigging to get it all square. Yes, allow £1000 plus painting plus VAT.
However, you won't know how bad it is until you get it stripped down. The good news is that Minis are not too difficult to repair body-wise as there are a lot of places with the experience to do it properly.
