Where are the timing windows? The one near the pulley has a window but no numbers like the one shown in Haynes.

Or should I be using the one on the flywheel?

Mine has no markings on the timing marks on the timing cover I just dial in what degree I need on my timing light and then align the slot on the pulley and the large upper most mark but you need more than a basic Timing Light to do it.

I'm sure they are 0-4-8-12-16-20degrees if that helps.

Thanks for the info. :D

you need more than a basic Timing Light to do it.

No way possible using a basic one? That's what I got right now, just for the Mini.

You need a timing light and a rev counter, later minis did not have the marking on the flywheel.

You could do it with a basic timing light using the picture provided by ukcooper, make sure the engine is warm and the vac pipe disconnected (may have to wind the idle up now) and set the timing at idle to what ever it says for your engine, lock it up and reconnect the vac pipe and reset the idle speed.

Thats the way we all did it back before we had timing lights with tacho's and adjustable advance in the lights

Forget about timing - what will you time it too??? Just advance the ignition in small steps till you hear a little pinking - then take it back slightly till it's 'not quite' pinking......
