Hi all,

I just want to find out which are better to have mini tastic springs or rubber doughnuts?

I am using lowered adjustable shocks, hi-lo's, adjustable tie bars, adjustable bottom arms and adjustable rear brackets.

So just want to find what would be best, shall I stick to rubber doughnuts or go for the springs? The springs that I am looking at are fast road kit.

The car will be used daily on the road and will be doing a few track days

Cheers

Bobby

I have run both and only use genuine rubber ones now. I found the coil springs very unforgiving own the road. They lacked 'feel'.

Which doughnuts do you use, the competitions ones, original rubber ones, or moulton smootha ride ones?

I use the original ones, but have used the red spot and they are good as well. I can't tell much difference between them, if yours are knackered both types will seem so amazing that either would be a good buy.

I used mini tastic "fast roads" when I had 13 * 5.5 wheels and it felt better, then switched to 10 * 4.5 wheels and went back to original standard rubbers with hi-los and solid mounts. The difference is huge, but for the 13"'s the metal coil springs suited it better for some reason. I had old rubber springs when I got the car on 13's and installed the mini tastic spings so dont know if the old rubbers were knackered, they looked ok and not too squashed. I've never done a mini track day but for road use the rubbers are fine.

Il be using them on my project thread (ambitious rally mini project) with hilos from minitastic £254 so roughly the same price as rubbers.
Gonna give the fast road (black ones) ago....

Wit the thread topic as listed... I thought we were going to talk about pastry and I was suddenly very hungry.

Sorry... nothing constructive to add to the suspension topic.

It's hard to see how anything but the rubber cone springs can work across a wide range of uses. The rubber cone spring is a true 'rising-rate' spring which the Mini with its very short suspension travel needs. For race applications where the suspension has little actual movement and can, therefore, hacve very high initial rate springs, then coils are fine. For a road car which needs a low initial rate getting very high as the suspension gets towards max travel the rubber cone springs are exactly right.
