welcome and the brakes are easy enough to do, just the right size spanners, bit of pipe with a jar at the end and a bottle of brake fluid. start with the rear breaks, there with be a little nipple on the back plate of the hub assembly, put the ring spanner on this then the pipe. one sits in the car and pushes the brake pedal down once the other person has turn the nipple 1/4 of a turn, he then turns it back and you then release the pedal, do this until all the air bubbles have been removed then move onto the otherside then the fronts. never re-use the old fluid to top back up.
If i was you i would give the engine a good service, this means you should buy a haynes manual as i will be a lot easier.
Change= oil filter, oil, water and antifreeze, spark plugs, distributor cap, distributor points and rotor arm, air filter, HT leads,
Check= resistance of the coil- look in the haynes manual( this will tell you if its okay), tappet clearance, points gap after you fit new ones.
this will ensure everything is in top order before anything major needs checking and is always best to do if you dont know the condition of the engine.
if you could identify the sound more clearly and the location it is coming from that would help us a lot as thats an odd noise for a car to make.
best regards and merry christmas,
Connor
