So this is a single pump set up that relies on the fuel to fill via the line from the other tank? ONly pumping from one?

No the main fuel line between the tanks is one huge Tee-piece with the pump in the middle. The pump draws form both simultaneously, there is no separation.

I'm curious why BMC did the twin tanks, was it a weight balance thing? Range for the sportier cars?
Is carrying more fuel a drag?

5.5 gallon fuel tanks don't get you far!

Granted it's not a monster sized tank but then minis hardly plow through petrol either :)

Australian homologation cars of the 60's and 70's had 100+L tanks..
The E49 had a 35 gallon tank

The FOrd XY GTHO Phase III had a 36 imp gallon tank (136L)

To get more fuel in, that was all. The rally team needed more fuel so it may have been for homologation. The RH tank was an option originally though before it became standard on the Cooper S. In effect it throws the balance out a little because the battery weights more or less the same as a half full 5 1/2 gallon tank.

resurecting this old thread fitting RH tank with this kit today minispares 'instructions' are just a list of parts so no use there, have fitted top bulkhead bracket as in this picture but the boot floor bolt will be inside the rear valence closing panel and if you move it far enough in then filler neck out of line. On other images i can find the strap joining bolt is on the other side of the tank seam (left hand side as you look at it) but then the bulkhead bracket angle is wrong. Annoyone any more advice on fitting this bloody thing? Had 'S' tank in for years but using adapted strap and bracket welded to floor, so filler hole is in correct place just decided to use correct looking kit now i'm renewing tank.

Ive made some plates about 1.5" sq with a captive nut welded in the middle which will be welded in situ after drilling a suitable hole to accommodate the nut.
Should have done the captive nut before the closing plate 🤔
