Hi all.... Hope everyone had a great christmas.... Just a quick one, I've searched but too no avail.... I'm sure I've seen somewhere if not on hear a set of manifold washers which are stepted to accommodate the difference between inlet manifold and exhaust manifold so you get an even pressure...any pointers are very welcome

Cheers james

Had a quick look couldn't find any...They are normally only needed when using mixed parts.. such as mg metro inlet with a LCB manifold.

We filed the inlet manifold to the same thickness as the exhaust manifold to get round it.
Although making your own washers would work

the cheapend end products have thinner thickness flanges hence the problem when mis and match, generally the better end products all have one thickness of flange 8mm but in your case its a handmade washer to do the job and the difference is about 2 mm so 8mm on manifold flange and 6mm on the inlets but measure before making anything

Not so sure its anything do with cheapness.

The inlet we used was MG Metro and the exhaust was an RC40 system from minispares. Still had a mismatch

Just make your own stepped washers from standard ones. File one side to reduce it by the appropriate (measured) amount.

You could cut a washer in half and weld it around the outer edge to a full washer, if that gives you the correct difference in thickness.

Or, you could visit a scrappy to see if some other car has something suitable. On a Mini the studs are 5/16", but washers for 8mm studs are equally acceptable.

i thought minispares did these?

but i would just file the inlet to match the exhaust manifold. i did this once and it saves faffing about finding the washers and also if you were to lose one whilst working on the engine it wont stop you from carrying on.

The cheaper LCBs had thinner flanges and yes so does the Metro inlet which was originally matched with a cast iron manifold of the same thickness, and in general the cheap LCBs are thinner read Keith Calvers report on exhausts its all there.

Sometimes you can't safely file a cast manifold, and if it breaks it is a very major annoyance. A steel manifold usually can be filed, but if you go too thin it may warp, so be careful if you go for that option.

Just file flats on 4off 12A1211 thick manifold washers. Do another for a spare at the same time if you want. Take you about 30 mins. No cracking or manifold distortion to worry about.

Agree, this will provide more support, ideally braze them, then file or machine.
