Sorry, could anyone identify this clutch for me?
Verto or Pre-Verto?

I'm not 100% sure but I think it is verto.

Found this on pistonheads.
Left is verto, right is pre-verto

The cover is the same irrespective of the clutch/flywheel used, it's the plunger and arm which makes the difference....

turn it over, if the plunger has a bearing pressed onto it, then it's for a diaphragm clutch, if it has a bearing held on with a rubber O ring, then it's a verto.

If there's no bearing on the end at all, then there will either be a round shaft there for a bearing to be pressed on or a shaft with two flats and a grove for the O ring.

It isn't a clutch, its the clutch cover or 'wok' as they are sometimes called. They fit both verto and verto, what makes the difference is the arm as shown in the post above. Yours is missing on the pic. If you put up a pic of what was behind that cover I can tell you which type it is.

ahhh I was well aware of this being the cover haha. Thanks for the response guys. My dad said someone should be able to tell by the outside of the cover, so I suppose he was almost right... :mmkay:

Now these are my questions, not my dads >_<

Are there any other was of checking?
And any benifits of one over the other? (verto over pre)

Many thanks guys.

Without the arm in place you cannot tell for sure, and even then I've known engines with the wrong arm. the only true way to check is to have a look... If the engine's in the car take the starter motor off and you will be able to tell what clutch is installed. You will either see a back plate and the ring gear attached to a separate flywheel ( diaphragm ) or the back of the fly wheel with the ring gear attached to it ( verto )

Went down to the shed. Took some more photos for you all to see.

Because of the engine I bought was lacking engine numbers and this being my first rebuild, the reseach is large. So I apologise for my questions and pictures.
Everyone starts somewhere, right :shy:

Yep. Pre Verto. These were used on Mini starting in 1979 just before Metro introduced and Metro 1980 to end 1982 when the Verto clutch was introduced for both Mini and Metro.
