Right before anyone says anything im aware it was a really really stupid thing to do but in march 2010 i was caught speeding twice on the same day coming out of a 30mph into a national speed limit and the other way round, im aware its my fault and i should have been more responsible etc. As a result i received 9 points, as i was only 18 i lost my licence resulting in the next worse year of my life 6 months waiting for a summons (yes it takes that long) and 6 months on the bus after the fresh freedom of a car. With insurance prices putting me off the road i took my cbt and bought a 125 bike, it was fun for a year but it became abit boring and wasnt the safest of things as it blew all accross the road in the wind, so i then bought a 600cc fazer, which is my now my daily ride. The insurance is really cheap at 600 a year. However ive re booked my theory for next week for a car. The bike is fantastic, but my girlfreinds parents dont like it at all and i am unable to take her anywhere so i have to get a lift off her, which after nearly 3 years has become embarrasing and frustrating, also its constant maitenece this time of year, im aware minis have to be looked after well but my bike has to be washed nightly and caked in wd40 ontop of HAVING to be garaged plus as people genrally dont have them as there main mode of transport mileage is depreciating it fast. Im really into minis and am really keen on getting one to keep as original as possible, plus i can use my dads bike at the weekends if i get a car which is a bonus. However im just worried insurance is going to keep biting my arse for years to come. Please dont think im some sort of chav i made a mistake nearly 3 years ago and just want to get on with doing what i love maintaining cars and bikes. Has anyone else been in this situation and what is your insurance like, also i never ever ever speed any more not even 5mph over the limit and probably never will as a result of my experience.

Don't you only have to declare convictions for 3 years on some insurance policies? If so maybe wait it out until march 2013 (when you no longer have to declare them) and benefit from cheaper car insurance. I completely sympathise with you about riding in the winter this has been a particularly wet and windy one but maybe brave it out for a few more months. As for insurance if you're over 21 you should be eligible for a classic policy on a mini which should be cheaper although I think some have mileage restrictions but insurance for minis seems to be generally pretty cheap anyway especially when they're standard. If not there are a few insurance companies tailored for people who have claims and convictions especially speeding: http://www.performan...iver-insurance/

ill have a look because points after 3 years don't count for the totting up rule so it may reduce regardless in march, ill probably call a few classic insurers in the new year to get a quote for if I were to get the car say as soon as I can pass my test again, or for if I were to purchase it in march. Got my theory again next week better pass seeming as though i've already passed it 3 times!! once for my 1st car test 2nd for my bike test (almost exactly the same) and again just over 2 years ago before i realised an 18 year old with points isnt going to get insured for under 10k haha.
