I`m not paying massively more then that and i`m 22.
I expect mine to drop below 200 quid in march.

For a standard 998, you should be able to get an agreed valuation policy for around the £100 mark at your age. (and you really do need an agreed valuation policy for a classic mini otherwise you are likely to get a only a few hundred quid back for your pride & joy in the event of a claim!!). Try some of the specialist insurers like Footman James or Adrain Flux, both of which also give you a 15% discount on your premium if you are a TMF+ member here.

I've got a 1971 Mini 1000, but I've put a 1.6 16v Vauxhall engine in it, roll cage, bucket seats, different dash, alloys, adjsutable suspension, upgraded brakes..... all listed and detailed on the policy. It's a limited mileage classic car policy (6000 mile limit). It's a bit of a postcode lottery though, so insurance will be cheap here as there's very little crime around my area and there's not that many people either.
Anyway, I'm 35 and my policy is £145 per annum, that includes European roadtrip cover and trackday cover too.

Postcode makes a big difference, even one theft can affect it. My insurance went up £15 or 20% roughly when my mates mini was stolen from around the corner (same street and postcode). I asked the insurance when I renewed and they said the rise was due to 'local theft on your postcode'. I know for a fact it was the only car nicked off our street last year (until his cheap fiat replacement was nicked, probably same scumbags) so whether it would be the same if any car was nicked or only because it was another mini I don't know, but my MGB GT didn't go up. Even still mine is cheap, but it is annoying when it happens.I'm insured through HIC.
