Does anyone know the best way to clean my 10" Wolfrace Wheels?

The problem is that they have a lime-scale kind of residue on them, which doesn't come off with water, they are bare alloy and not lacquered and were originally quite shiny

Can anyone help?

Thanks

use some autoglym alloy wheel cleaner to get the worst of the much off . DO NOT let it sit for very long on bare alloy though as it will eat it away! Get a stiff brush, spray, brush on, and wash off with lots of water! if there are any really bad bits, you can get them off using 800grit sandpaper, but bear in mind if you sand the metal, when you polish you may have different colours of alloy next to each other, so either be very careful, or do the lot!

The best thing i've found that you can clean alloy with that brings it upto a "dull shine" is......... colgate! Using a new stiff brush, squeeze some on, dip the brush in clean cold water, and scrub away! If you do want it a bit shiny, then get a tube of autosol. It's the best polish for anything chromy or shiny!

I had some wolfrace wheels similar to that, which had the limescale stuff on it.

I used T-cut to clean it off, took a while but did the trick.

You can see the one I started to clean, bottom right.

if the rims are all like that a couple of hours each should have them looking great
any kerb rash or scars can be smoothed out with wet and dry finishing at 1200 or higher then autosol even though it says not for alloy wheels on the box

The weels them selves are in good nick as they dont have any kerb scuffs. So is it the Autosol stuff I need to clean them up?

autosol is the mutts nuts for cleaning alloys. ill take some "after" pics of my revos and post both (if i remember) i used fine sandpaper to get the worst of the corrosion off and then spent about 10-15 minutes on each wheel with the polish. came up awesome!

i was quoted £300 to restore 4 revolutions. when i pointed out i could get a new set for that the guy went quiet! i spent £10 on 2 cans of nitromors to strip the paint and lacquer, £3 on a tube of autosol, and repainted the centres with smooth hammerite i had lying about. my next project is to do my 7x13 superlights now i know how easy it is! dont know when i'll be at work next to get pics of the wheels but it should be this week.

one thing i've found with painted wheels, is that if you wax them (not polish, regular car wax) then the brake dust stays off them for longer. The same with standing water.

heres the before and after pics of my revos. The first is with it all rubbed down round the rim, and the center bubbling away with nitromorsy goodness. Second is the end result - really need to give em another polish to get em really good.Attached File  P1010031.JPG   805.13K   11 downloadsAttached File  P1010035.JPG   860.66K   14 downloads
