I just took delivery of these beautiful lamps today.

But have some questions:

How rare are these lamps -

how old are the lamps (likely) to be

And finally the rear of the lamps is different. One has the mounting bolt dead centre and the other just off centre (slightly lower, i guess to allow for the angle of the mounting surface). I wish to mount one onto my boot which one should i use?

pictures to follow.....

I figured out the mounting query! Both are adjustable!

Just what I was going to say. They adjust. Lovely lamps, enjoy.

yeah I remember that. looked great!

i was gonna copy you actually :shy: , no i mean take inspiration from you. But when i went to mount the clear light, it felt and looked better to position it a little higher, than i have seen others do. And then i decided not to use the other.

You have mounted it a bit too high IMO

There should be a date stamp on the lamps as they are Lucas, I would guess early 70's

I would get someone to photoshop a red one on the left but have it lower than half way... i think that would look sweet..;)

Glad you said so....I agree, it 'was' a tad too high, my girlfriend thought it was fine. The tilt angle of the lamp didn't help. I have just elongated the hole which has brought it down about 13mm and also allowed the tilt to be changed. much happier now....

The 'spare' lamp, was a little milky looking in the lens. I wired it up and the milkiness got even worse and started to turn yell on the lens.

What could have caused that? they are a sealed beam unit

The sealed beam is probably about to fail. Over time the seal breaks down were the connections go through the glass at the back of the unit.
