Just need a bit of reassurance to be honest.
Haven't started her for 5-7 days, she ran very lumpy to start with, found the dash pot piston in the carb had seized, managed to free and restart. Sounded a lot better and ticked over better. Just had a huge amount of blue smoke from the exhaust. Let her warm up and took her for a short spin to see if this would clear it. She still smokes but no where as bad. Should I see what happens after a better ( longer ) run out before I assume the worse. I know if the valve stem seals are on their way out this may have caused oil to enter the chambers. Just some thoughts really.
Thanks

What did you use to unsieze the carb piston? The smoke could be the oil?

Excess oil in the damper can find its way into the inlet and cause a bit of smoking, was it ok before you laid it up 5-7days? give it a good run and see if it clears and runs as before the layup

and can take a surprisingly long time to clear...ie a 30 mile blast

It could also be valve stem oil seals or worn guides

Thanks for the replies.
She was running fine before she was laid up. Didn't use any oil or lubricant to free the carb, jus a v.good clean internally.
I'm back to work today, so the run out should help. :)

valve stem oil seals or worn guides both let a little old down into the cylinders while parked up
once driven for a few miles this is burnt off and clears

After a good 50 mile blast she cleared.
Looks like I'll have to change the valve stem seals.
Thanks for all the advice

Just out of interest, are you using the recommended 20/50 oil?
