As the heading says, the threaded holes at each end of the sills ('95 Rover mini), what are they for? Here in Australia, I haven't seen them on local cars but my import one has them, are the just for say, the assembling? They appear to be 3/8" unc threads.

Do you mean the slinging point holes at each end of the sill?? if so they are no longer used as there were for moving the shell around on the production line at the factory.

They could be for bolting the bare shells onto transport frames?

If you scroll to the bottom there's 6 shells on frames. Clicky

I was never sure what the thread on these was. It did not seem to be exactly 3.8" UNC, because I could never find a bolt to fit, which makes me wonder if it was Whitworth. Anyway, they were only used in the factory, and can support the weight of a bare shell only. When new Minis were delivered, they were supposed to be filled by plastic plugs 13H 2475, and I suggest doing the same to help prevent corrosion. You may not be able to get the original plugs, but there will be something suitable somewhere, or failing that, a blob of silicone sealant.
