Although they will buy any car, your experience shows how laughable some of their quotes are.

They offered £1200 for my 2004 Subaru, I sold it privately for £2500.

But my bro flogged a Citroen C5 to them that was only running on 3 cylinders (and he knew why) for £1500, laughed his t!ts off at that one.

Ive had a few laughable quotes from them before. But last year my old man said he was going to sell his 2006 ford ranger so i typed in the details and £4500 came up. wow I thought. and sure enough that's what he got.

My missus's folks had a Vauxhall Meriva thingy that they were trying too sell, typed its details into the online thingy and it offered the, 1400 quid or there abouts. Anyway, they accepted the quote and when they took the car down for the exchange they went round picking up on every mark and dent taking value off the car! Even when doing the quote we said it wasn't in perfect condition, but it certainly wasn't as bad as they were making out! They ended up offering them 800quid! We walked away and sold it privately, sold for 1600 squids! :P Won't be bothering with them again...!

What do they do with the cars after they buy them? Do they flog them on or put as scrap?

Most end up being sold onto the large car supermarket places.

We buy any car. Err...Apparently not my micra.

Their site wouldn't give me a quote so they said I would be rung by a representative. I received a phone call and after much talking I was told that they were unable to make an offer on the vehicle due to its age.

I'm sure this is against trade description act but I managed to sell it for £215 in the end.

They offered me £150 for my mini a few years ago.

I don't really see why their quotes are laughable. You cannot possibly compare what you get from a private sale with what you're likely to get from these types of traders. When you sell to webuyanycar you are getting below trade in price for your car, and in my experience they tend to be pretty up front about that fact. The point is that if you sell to them, you're paying for the convenience of not having to sell privately. Having accepted a lower price for your old car, you can then theoretically walk into a dealer with a pile of cash to buy your next car and negotiate a better cash deal. As opposed to having to negotiate a trade in on something that the dealer will either have to invest a load of money in to resell, or send to auction and risk not get their money back. At the end of the day they are in business to make a profit and the way they do that is buy giving you under the market value and then selling your car on to a dealer, or off at auction.

If you want top dollar for a car you are selling, then you sell it privately. But then you also get all the hassle of idiots coming to view you car, wanting a test drive without insurance, trying to haggle the price down and generally messing you around. Plus there's the worry of having to handle large sums of cash and whether they are going to pay you with forged notes, or a dodgy cheque/bankers draft. Then there's the worry of whether they are going to find/ cause a problem with the car and demand their money back. Now I'm prepared to put up with all that for the sake of a making a few hundred extra quid, but I can see why a lot of people aren't.

I do agree that that the quotes they give for classic minis are rather unrealistic, but then that's because they are not a specilaist car dealers. When you get a quote from them for a classic mini, you are getting the standard market value for high mileage twenty or so year old banger, not a collectible enthusiasts car that attracts a premium price tag.

mate of mine was getting rid of his bmw, wanted £23k for it, put the details into we buy etc and they came up with £22K so they aren't always that bad but on cheap/old cars they will obviously offer a pittance ;-)

We sold a Renault Megane to them a few years ago for more than I was offered on a part X

They have their uses if you cant be ars'icled with a private sale and/or you know theres something WRONG with it and you dont want the comeback :shifty: ...they're ok

Bob, the other side of the coin is what they gave for my Alfa. 5 weeks mot, cam belt overdue by 3 years, knackered brakes, 146k miles, been in loads of knocks, suspension shot etc etc. They gave me 910 (and the tax back) for a car worth 750 privately!

Anyway, what's this nonsense about selling your mini.

seems like unless it's something nice/expensive etc they just offer a pittance but there must be plenty of people who accept?

guy a few units up from me does sales, mostly stuff around the £995 price bracket, sells a lot of stuff, he buys a fair few though from people who just turn up desperate to sell at unbelievably low prices!!

must be a lot of people who do just want a quick no hassle sale.

Anon, I didn't want the hassle of tyre kickers but got lucky. The offer on bobs is ridiculous. Its a decent car, I'd give him at least 95 for it ;)
