My daughter's Mini 1000 is 1976. How do we tell if it's a MK3 or MK4 as I believe they changed over during 76 but I have no idea what the differences are. I need to know as I'm about to order lots of shiny bits for it.

Thanks, Paul.

Mark IV (introduced in 1976) had a front rubber mounted subframe with single tower bolts and the rear frame had some larger bushes introduced. Twin stalk indicators were introduced with larger foot pedals.

Thanks for the reply. It has twin stalks on the steering column and 2 single bolts (BIG) in the engine bay to hold the front subframe in. So I'm guessing that means we have a MK4.

Thanks, Paul.

And a mk4 has a reverse light built into the light cluster.

only from 1977 so you could have a MKIV without reverse lights

Plus it's also a very common mod for mk 2/3 tail lamps (without the integral reverse lamps) to be retro fitted to later models. I have an 85 mayfair that has been fitted with the earlier mk 2/3 tail lamps at some point.

What particular shiny bits are you planning to buy though, as an awful lot of components will fit all models from mk3 onwards anyway.

I haven't made a list yet but I need all the suspension components, some brake stuff, bearings, master cylinders, some trim bits. I just wanted to tell them which model I have so they can cross check I'm buying the correct stuff as I suspect my order will be £1,000 or more.

I'm a bit of a Mini novice to be honest. I owned a Mini Clubman in 1979 which I had for 7 years but haven't touched one since. Then about 18 months ago my 17 year old daughter decided she wanted to restore one (i.e. she wanted her dad to restore one for her) and we bought a '76 Mini 1000 off eBay sight unseen. It has 26,000 miles on the clock and had been in the same family since new. They only used it to go to their orchard in and we had to remove about half a ton of mud from it. I've replaced both wings, both front floors, outer sills, bonnet, rear valance, front panel, A panels and reskinned both doors. But apart from that it's totally original still hahaha

Paul.

The reverse lights were only added to the Mini 1000, 1275GT and 1100 not the 850 so an 850 upto 1980 would also not have reversing lamps but still be MK4

Thanks, we're definitely a MK4 then as it has a flat top to the tunnel and slots in the gutter above each seam.

Cheers, Paul.

Maybe a good idea to get TMF+ for discount at Mini Spares, could save yourself £100 or more
