And a mk4 has a reverse light built into the light cluster.
only from 1977 so you could have a MKIV without reverse lights

ahh, sorry didn't know that always heard them referred to as mk2/3 or mk4 didn't know there was an overlap.

What particular shiny bits are you planning to buy though, as an awful lot of components will fit all models from mk3 onwards anyway.

I'm a bit of a Mini novice to be honest. I owned a Mini Clubman in 1979 which I had for 7 years but haven't touched one since. Then about 18 months ago my 17 year old daughter decided she wanted to restore one (i.e. she wanted her dad to restore one for her) and we bought a '76 Mini 1000 off eBay sight unseen. It has 26,000 miles on the clock and had been in the same family since new. They only used it to go to their orchard in and we had to remove about half a ton of mud from it. I've replaced both wings, both front floors, outer sills, bonnet, rear valance, front panel, A panels and reskinned both doors. But apart from that it's totally original still hahaha
