I have a nackerd 998 a+ engine which I am replacing with a standard 998 engine my question is ......

Can I remove my clutch bell housing and starter motor with solenoid from my a+ engine and fit it into my standard 998 engine as the clutch throw out arm is short on the a+ and long on the standard.

If I could do this then It would save me having to buy the slave cylinder to suit the standard 998 and also the starter motor and separate solenoid and having to re root cables which is rather not.

They are interchangeable but only as complete assemblies, from crank nose outwards (and including) to the hydraulic hose. The starter is a separate issue - either can be inertia or pre engaged, it's just the ring gear on the flywheel that makes the difference. The "wok" is same casting, so you could build that up with the other pattern of release bearing, arm, etc.

So if I took the clutch and fly wheel assembly bell housing and short throw arm and the starter with solenoid from my a+ engine it would fit to the crank shaft of my standard 998 ?

Yes, you'll also need the slave cylinder & bracket and a hose to connect it to the master cylinder. Use the Verto flywheel bolt too.

That's fine then as I have the slave cylinder and bracket already on the car as the car was on the road with the nackerd a+ engine that's great so ill change everything from the crank shaft out to the a+ stuff and I should be well away ! Thanks

Other than the clutch what is the diffrence between a standard 998 and an a+ ?

Strictly speaking the clutch is separate. Minis and Metros had A+ engines before the Verto clutch came out. There's nothing specific, just several minor improvements - the external ribs to make the block stiffer; revised alternator and distributor fittings; differences in crank manufacturing; some cam profiles; oil pump drive; pistons & conrods; head studs; rocker ear; a crank damper... many are interchangeable too.

The same goes for the gearbox though swapping bits is more like the clutch - all or nothing, most notably the transfer gear has bigger bearings on the A+.
