Been offered a loan of a plasma cutter for as long as its owner doesnt need it, thinking it would be handy for cutting out my boot floor etc, but how does it cope with mini paint? i am assuming the underseal will burn the same way it does if you try and weld it?

Anyone with experience or tips to share?

you need clean metal. or at least to start with. we clean the metal with grinder first.

Better invest in a couple wire wheels for the grinder then? never used one before. aparently its needing new tips and nozzle, are they all the same or make/model specific?

I use a flapping disc to clean metal back usually.

plasma is a great tool, you need a steady hand or use something to rest againist to do a straight line.

We bought a plasma cutter and the 2 time we have used it, it's been great.

Like Jordie said, to start off with you will need a clean part of metal, but when it starts it goes through paint and seam sealer easily, although it did struggle a little when it came to the subframe re-inforcing plates in the boot floor as they where quite think - but we didn't change any setting's so perhaps that would've helped.

Hope this is of some help to you ;D

you need reasonably dry air (compressor), if it's too wet then it won't arc.
