Okay so when I bought my mini I was in a rush so I didn't check the engine numbers, and it turns out that the numbers on the enging and v5 dont match.

So What will happen if when I send the engine numbers to the DVLA and they say that the engine in the mini is stolen ECT?

And also, why do I have 2 plates here and what are they for? Is one the commission number and the other the chassis?

Engines often get swapped. I think these days you are supposed to send all sorts of proof of sale, and garage that fitted blah blah..

Its very unlikely somebody would check...

Yes but I need to send off a change of colour anyway, would it not be a good idea to do the engine at the same time?

you can but looks like you need the following

DVLA will need written evidence of any changes to engine number and cylinder capacity (cc). Written evidence can be:

* a receipt for the replacement engine
* written evidence from the manufacturer
* an inspection report provided for insurance purposes
* written confirmation on headed paper from a garage if the change in engine size took place before you bought the vehicle

So should I just send it off without evidance and if they want evidance do it at a later date?

Had a similar problem when I bought my sons, The DVLA will require proof, however if you make an appointment at your local DVLA office for an inspection then take the car along one of the engineers will come and take a look, apparently all they need is evidence that the engine you say is under the bonnet is actualy there.
