Hi all, as the title suggests I need some help. I bought a cone compression tool from mini spares and I thought I knew how to use it but realise now that maybe I don't!

This is the tool.

I assume the small nut is removed and this end is inserted into the cone.
I then wound the large nut down to clamp the tube against the sub.
I then inserted a Allen key into the end of the threaded bar and turned it until it wouldn't wind down any more.

However with all this done the cone isn't any more compressed and the top suspension arm is still clamped solid.

Have I got the set up correctly?
If so, why, with the nut locked up, has the cone not compressed? I was expecting free air between the trumpet and arm and no pressure on the arm at all, is this correct?

Thanks, Chris

you wind the large nut down on the top of the tool and put the allen key in the top and hold it to stop it from spinning around:)

First remove the nut, washers and the outer body, thrn put some copper slip on the small thread and screw it into the cone using the Allen key so it's mega tight.

Then slide the outer shaft over the smaller one, put the 2 washers on and then put the nut on and do it up by hand.

Next, get a 24mm spanner and whilst holding the inner shaft still with the Allen key, use the 24mm spanner to tighten up the nut.

Keep checking the top arm until you have it loose enough.

NB - be careful now as the cone is under tension and DANGEROUS.

If you want to remove the top arm completely then undo both nuts slightly before using the tool.

**This is just a guide and I take no responsibility for damage to you or the car etc**

Ah, well that sounds more sensible! Off to china in an hour but I'll give that a go on my return. So should I expect the cone to compress up so the trumpet isn't touching the arm?

sometimes the trumpet gets stuck in the cone but it will have enough room to pull out:)
