Small update

Been rather busy of late so haven't managed to get on with the doors
I've started to get some of the parts powder coated
I'm using the same company that did all my lads stuff as they are very reasonable and do a good job
Collected these today

Rad cowl , top engine steady , clutch slave bracket , fuel line shield , rad bracket , horn and coil bracket and a bit which holds the battery cable in place

IMG_0721_zpsulhyqevl.jpg

Getting the front subframe, suspension trumpets and a few other bits in later this week

Mark

Update

Had the front subframe powder coated

IMG_0723_zpseugtj8bh.jpg

IMG_0724_zpszuzwp65f.jpg

With that done it was back to the door
Ground down the welds with a 1mm cutting disc

IMG_0733_zpsstz6pujc.jpg

IMG_0735_zpsqhaiuqeb.jpg

Applied several coats of primer and top coat this should keep the rust at bay

IMG_0736_zpsumhit3y1.jpg

With that done on went the new Heritage skin ( I fitted a sound proofing pad to the skin before it went on )
Door fitted back to the car

IMG_0737_zpslemu5hjp.jpg

IMG_0738_zpsmgyuagjd.jpg

IMG_0739_zpscccuftwc.jpg

Not too bad it will require some weld rod at the top by the door handle
the bottom by the A panel needs a wee tweak but I'm very happy for the first fit

Thanks for looking

Mark

Door number 2

Stripped it down and removed the skin
Not as bad as the other one but a fair bit of work to do

Back to the door today

Cut out all the rot bit more involved than door 1 due to a few holes in the bottom as well as the lip
Rusty lip removed

IMG_0757_zpsqrkurrmh.jpg

IMG_0752_zpsb6tbobml.jpg

Then I cut out the rot in the bottom of the door

IMG_0755_zpsbiro3lyw.jpg

IMG_0756_zpsapejnyfb.jpg

Cut some steel and welded it in

IMG_0758_zpsfa5jtpf3.jpg

Welded it from inside to keep it tidy on the bottom

IMG_0760_zpsn7lf7gpg.jpg

IMG_0761_zps25plli2m.jpg

Ground it down

IMG_0759_zpslvhi6xtp.jpg

Then made up the new lip and tacked it on

IMG_0762_zpsxlqzaysu.jpg

IMG_0763_zpsrdsrnfel.jpg

IMG_0764_zpswjpliqqh.jpg

IMG_0765_zpswyyxb5sr.jpg

IMG_0766_zpse1epxduw.jpg

IMG_0767_zpsqycmyw7w.jpg

Dressed it all up and gave it a splash of zinc primer

IMG_0768_zpstmft5w8d.jpg

IMG_0769_zpsbsv5qedz.jpg

IMG_0770_zps38vgishl.jpg

IMG_0771_zpsrskavi49.jpg

The light was fading so I left it there
Got to do the drain hole bit more lip and some final dressing then I can fit the skin

Quick pick of the rest of the bits I had powder coated

I feel your pain with regard to working outside.  My driveway is on quite a slope too so it's not easy.  Between that and two kids I haven't been able to do much to my mini.  Told the wife that I'm getting a digger in to level the driveway this summer!

I think I'm on my 6th or 7th year and have only just started , so don't worry about it to much your flying in comparison!

I've got similar rust issues and have the same panel's to do as yours, just started following as your pics are really handy, keep up the good work, thanks, Jay

Cheers Jay

Glad you find the pics useful
I brought this car expecting to just use it as it looked good and was one of the best I'd seen for the price
But all that shines isn't gold !
My knowledge of these cars wasn't that comprehensive 5 years ago and in hindsight I'd of continued looking but hey ho it's been a learning curve with lots of highs and plenty of lows

Update time

Had a bit of a step backwards moment recently
I looked through my thread and wasn't happy with some of my early work especially in relation to the drivers door step and seat crossmember repairs

Sooooooooo this happened

IMG_0801_zpsempy7hl9.jpg

Chopped out the door step and crossmember and removed all the sound deadening

Luckily I had another much better door step from sonic so that will be going on and I got the crossmember from M machine Minispares only sell the magnum ones

I had a small area to repair then I prepared the floor and crossmember

IMG_0806_zpssyfbsive.jpg

IMG_0808_zps7ekogu7m.jpg

IMG_0809_zpsgifj8al5.jpg

Feel better about it now just got to finish the plug welds and dress it all down

Also found a new paint shop that's given me a very good price so if all goes to plan it will be painted next month

Hi all

Not updated this for 6 months
Well a lots happened but I'm happy to say all the metal work is finished and it's gone off to the body shop and it only took 5 years so far
I'm just in the process of sorting out Photobucket as it seems to have gone nuts lately for some reason ??
So I'll update with some pics shortly
Going to be rebuilding it on the drive at home not ideal but lost my garage space but hey ho onwards and upwards

Thanks mate

Nice to know folks are still interested in it
I guess it's easy to get lost on here when you disappear for 6 months
